BRIEF: You are tasked with creating imagined
creatures, monsters, or humanoids in
small groups that inspire an emotional
response through their design. You will use
2D and 3D tools to produce your concept
for an imagined game of your invention
(you may want to create a brand identity /
logos for final display purposes: optional).

- With the change in the storyline, I have re-evaluated the ideas on how to reflect them in the appearance of my character. It’s essential to show that he is still partially human, partly a mutant with a monstrous whale-like form. Since the monstrous whale model is still under development, I will base it on the visual concept of the whale in Dishonored.
- While working on the ideas for changes in appearance, I was also reminded of Peter Watts’ book Starfish, where humans undergo modifications and transformations to work at great depths. The ideas and story from this are very interesting and could be applied to this project.
- I want to incorporate the appearance of the Asari from Mass Effect, as they have something both aquatic and scientific, if that makes sense.
- I like the idea of the female character’s appearance from Star Trek: Beyond and will see if I can adapt it.
- an option – Blue from Hellboy

PRACTICE – Drawing from geometric shapes. Not exactly as shown, but still a good exercise.

Hunterian Trip – a visit to the museum for inspiration, sketching, and psychological trauma.

ZBrush – beginner tutorial from Nexttut. Helped me at least to get started and do something. Very helpful for newbies.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzDIxMnZ_Po&t=829s&ab_channel=Nexttut

Work in progress on my character mutant-scientist

Difficulties with fingers, as I’ve flattened them too much and haven’t figured out how to cut them properly yet. Eventually, I found out about the Blob Brush and mainly fixed the hands.

I also did some research to find ideas for equipment I can add to the body to make it more interesting and complex. Additionally, I remembered the toys I used to have—mutant animal robots like TechnoZoids and Beast Machines. I’ll think about what elements I can incorporate from them. (added to pureref)

I worked on restoring the musculature, which I had previously almost completely smoothed out to give the body a more streamlined look. I also added some veins, brought back volume in the waist area, and generally enhanced the muscle definition. Additionally, I reworked the hands and feet

Also added a few small details, for example, nostrils. I keep struggling to import readymade eyes into the project, Keep working on hands.

minus 2h and we have cople eyes.

Worked on his skin. Added noice (from Lucas tutorails). Made several researches on ways of texturing skin, eventually found great pack of alphas for elephant skin pattern and used them on the model. Also used few scar/cuts from Luca
s materials.

Worked on the details, added more textures, scars, and barnacles.

trying different types of material

Made a rig, tried Transpose Master — didn’t work as expected

Started painting the model. I was more or less happy with the colors, but the overall result looked low-resolution, despite the high polygon count

I was advised to use rotation instead of Transpose, and it has shown better results

Had to re-texture the model, as the texture and details were flattened — possibly due to not turning off ZSub while painting. Another possible reason could be the use of DynaMesh and ZRemesher in an attempt to fix the low-resolution appearance.
Also encountered issues when switching the pose, as different parts of the model moved separately. Eventually resolved it by placing all subtools into one folder and adjusting the pose using the folder’s settings.
Also didn’t expect the Flatten brush can apply color to the model, so I had to repaint it afterward.

I couldn’t figure out how to remove a giant duplicate of the model, which somehow appeared in the scene. As a result, I lost all progress and had to start everything from scratch

Came up with new ideas for painting the model to give it a look inspired by dolphins or whales

I finally gave up on painting and texturing and started my struggles with lighting and rendering.

As shown in class, I picked the resolution, angle, and lighting. I saved pictures of the model with different materials so I can use them later in Photoshop for my final one.

I worked with Photoshop, using several pictures of the monster and altering the overlay settings. I added a couple of eels for the composition, corrected the colors so all parts of the picture look consistent, and added some rim light, shadows, and other small corrections.
